DPI : WEEK 11

LECTURE

In today's lecture, we were taught Digital Photography. I learned the meaning of exposure clearly. Exposure is the amount of light that reaches your camera sensor or film in photography.

He also showed us that settings exposure in the camera.

  1. Camera body:

  • Shutter

  • Image sensor

  • LCD screen

  1. Camera lens:

  • Aperture/ Iris

The camera body is a lightproof box.

Not only that, I learned the lower the f-number, the larger the lens opening is in the aperture.

TUTORIAL

Mr Fauzi then informed us of our next assignment, which was to build a loop animation in After Effects, which we completed throughout the course of our tutorial lesson. Not only that, but he also demonstrated how to do so and provided us with video instruction on how to do so. He provided us with a Google Slides presentation to which we could upload our research to begin the project. The research involved writing our biographies, a statement of our work (essentially, what I want to achieve in this Loop Animation project), and finding inspiration from Pinterest and putting it out there as a reference for Mr Fauzi to refer to as well as for me to use personally. Not only that but we were also requested to create a preliminary draught of our concept, which would be implemented starting the next week at the earliest. For this week, he was directed to complete Part 1, which includes drafting the biography and the statement that would serve as the basis for the project's commencement.

PRACTICAL

Today's practical was conducted on campus, which was a nice change of pace. Not only that, but we also had the opportunity to learn about and practise studio lighting at the Studio Lab. I was happy since it was my first physical lesson, and I met a lot of new friends today in the process. In our practical lesson, Mr. Mike took over and guided us through the process of studio lighting practise. In the first instance, he introduced himself, divided us into four groups, and handed us a camera to each team member. However, one of my team members had brought his own cameras.

We were also instructed to practise with different forms of lighting, and we were given the option of flipping a coin to determine which style of lighting we wanted to photograph. Then my team decided on sight lighting B and Rembrandt lighting A as their final choices. To be quite honest, when we were shooting images, I learnt a great deal about the composition of light, and and my team members were able to share our expertise by educating one another. Having learned how to shoot photographs and understand the lighting composition, my team opted to take group photographs as well, and we all had a great time doing so today in physical education class.

Today's session was extremely interesting and also extremely informative, as I learnt a great deal throughout the length of the day. In addition, I was able to physically attend class after being absent for many months due to the pandemic, and I met a lot of new friends while there.
