WEEK 6 - 9 : POSTER DESIGN RESEARCH

To complete this project, we were asked to design a poster around the theme Mental Health: Maintaining a Positive Attitude While Participating in Covid. Our project theme needed to be better understood before we could even begin designing the poster, so we did that before starting the design process. As a result, we conducted extensive research on mental health.

WEEK 6

Mood Board

Findings

The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced unprecedented changes in the lives of children and adolescents. These changes brought a sudden loss of structure, routine, and sense of control. The pandemic itself has caused much worry, stress, and grief. These stressors can cause mental health challenges for anyone and can cause acute symptoms to appear for people who may experience preexisting mental health challenges.

This year, many people have faced serious challenges to their mental health. Along with the health impacts of the disease, COVID-19 has led to, self and social isolation, disconnection from family and friends, quarantine and lockdowns on movement resulting in more people than ever experiencing feelings of helplessness, isolation and depression. Demand for health support services has increased exponentially as a result.

Driven by the angst and anxiety generated by a pandemic, thousands of people have flooded the health system, while others have rushed to supermarkets in an attempt to forestall coming supply shortages. Mathematical modeling will help us understand the natural history of the disease, predict outbreak patterns, and identify strategies to modify the course of the pandemic.

Hence, as a growing number of people worldwide are being urged to remain at home and limit their physical contact with others, feelings of isolation may be on the rise. To prevent this isolation from adversely affecting your mental health, it is crucial to reach out to others.

Title: Don't let go hope
Slogan: Life is tough, so are you
Call for action: Think positive, be positive

WEEK 7

Week 7 saw us continuing our poster project by defining the concept that we wanted to put into action in our posters. We were instructed to sketch out ideas for each layer as well as our mockup posters in order to receive feedback from the lecturer so that we could make further improvements to our designs.

FIGURE 1.4 Mockup #2

My concept for this poster is to make it bright and colourful in order to demonstrate positivity and raise awareness through this poster. Apart from that, I believe that colour brings happiness, so I decided to include some pretty, bright flowers around the edge of my picture to demonstrate that being positive is important and that it is not difficult to remain optimistic during this pandemic. I also included the phrase "Think Positive, Be Positive" as a remark on the poster as well. I also wanted my poster to be as simple as possible while still having an impact on the audience and whoever happens to see it.

WEEK 8

FEEDBACK: Mr Fauzi liked Mockup #1 from the figure 1.3 the best out of the two drawings that I came up with. As opposed to Mockup #2, he requested that I submit that poster as my final proposal rather than Mockup #2.

During Week 8, I began working on retouching my photographs, which had been shot by my friend. On-campus, I had in a little photoshoot. The portrait photo was shot with the assistance of my friend.

FIGURE 1.6 After the edit

During my time spent editing the photograph, I had to move the photograph to the right side of the frame and convert it to monochrome in order to mix in with the purple colour that I was aiming for.

FIGURE 1.7  Face Cut

It was necessary for me to chop 30 per cent of my face away in order to include the flowers at the edge of my face into my poster design in order to accomplish my goal. My poster will have a bright yellow backdrop, so I cut out the photo using Photoshop's pen tool and then removed the background with the Quick Selection Tool. I did this because I wanted to use a bright yellow background for my poster.

FIGURE 1.8  Changed the appearance to dark blue+purple colour

It took many layers of Photoshop to produce the desired colour shift on my face. I started with a new layer and picked the appropriate colour, which was a combination of blue and purple. I then had to overlay the layer to achieve the result seen above.

Then, after I was through editing the photographs, I changed the background of my poster to a bright yellow and started sketching a line of art on top of my face in order to make it more visually appealing and creative rather than simply plain.

WEEK 9

When I sent in my progress update on my poster during Week 9, I got comments from Mr. Fauzi, who inquired about my plans for the remainder of my poster, which included figure 2.0 above. I described to him how I had saw myself going about it. I informed him that I was going to place some type of flower garden at the border of my face where I cut and that I was going to add the typography above my photo, but I hadn't determined where I was going to put the typography just yet. When I presented my concept to Mr. Fauzi, he expressed interest and told me that it was a great one. However, he requested that I create two posters for him to review, one without flowers and one with flowers. Due to the flowers that I was planning to place on my poster, he requested me to bring two posters instead of one. He was concerned that my poster would seem too stuffy because of the flowers. The two posters seen here are the posters without flowers and the posters with flowers, respectively that was requested my the tutor for review purpose.

WEEK 10

FEEDBACK:  During the lecture lesson, I showed my work and got some minor criticism from Mr. Fauzi, who was very helpful. He expressed his appreciation for my efforts in creating the poster and said that he loved it. The fact that he provided me with comments made me extremely delighted. However, the criticism I received was only of a minor kind. It was all about the colour of the typeface that I used for the title. He informed me that the white font that I had chosen was not visible, and he requested that I modify the colour of the font to something more appropriate for the poster. Not only that, but he recommended that I use the colour red for the typeface to make it more complementary to the rose.

DESCRIPTION:

As little more than an explanation to show why such a poster was made, it is a poster to demonstrate positivity and raise awareness among the general public, particularly students, since during these difficult times in Covid 19, everyone, including students, is imprisoned to their own homes. Students' learning habits have been radically altered, and they must now adjust to the new standard of living. As it's not simple, and students have recently expressed frustration with their new online courses as a result of the many restrictions. Students' mental health has had a significant influence on the epidemic; thus, in order to inspire them and to disseminate positivity, I created this poster, which is titled "Don't Let Go Of Hope." It is my intention to make this poster as bright and colourful as possible, as seen in the picture above. On top of all of that, I believe that colour can bring happiness, which is why I chose to include some gorgeous, vibrant flowers around the perimeter of my photo, which I cropped to illustrate that being positive is essential and that remaining cheerful throughout this epidemic is not difficult to do. Aside from that, I added a letter on the poster with the words "Think Positive, Be Positive" since I felt they were suitable as all the students need to think positive all the time. It was also important to me that my poster be as basic as possible while yet making an impression on the audience and anybody else who happened to come across it throughout the course of the project.
